Festival Writers still working hard...

Our resident team of word artists are creating new work daily inspired by the Festival and west Leeds. To keep an eye on what they are up to visit the Young Writers section on the header of this page or click here.

Dont miss an extra special festival event - The Word Cafe on Sunday 25 July 2.30pm at Armley Mills where the young writers will be presenting their work (over tea and cake).

The Armley Hippo Trail

Get yourself to Armley Town Street to see more hippos than you are to be found round any watering hole!

Look out for the two hippo shops (next door to Bobs Heel Bar and next door to Gartons Solictors) featuring hippo pots, hippo paintings, hippo drawings, hippo embroidery & hippo iphone artwork and dont miss the Hippoduct in Armley Library - who knows we might even get it built.

Sun 25 July - The Adam Lowe Tour of Armley. 1pm Florence Cafe, Branch Rd.
Armley-based writer Adam Lowe takes us on a wonderful and whacked-out tour of the area, from prehistoric times to today. Pop on your magic specs and see West Leeds like you've never seen it before: from monstrous fish to great authors to scandalous residents, you'll never look at Armley in the same way again.
Meet at 1pm at Florence Cafe, Branch Road.
Finishing point: Armley Mills (in time for the writers in residence Word Cafe)

Sun 25 July - The I Love West Leeds Festival Word Café. 2.30pm Armley Mills
Aperformance by five young writers from Leeds, Manchester, London and Zimbabwe, who have been helping to spread the creative word about the Festival. From monologues inspired by the histories of Armley Mills, to love songs in celebration of the number 16 bus, to comic strips about the Marvellous Tea Dance, they're all being celebrated through words, the web, live readings, music, performance and illustration
. Plus free tea and cake!
