Play up Play Up
A new play for the festival...
Play Up, Play Up is a dark and clever musical comedy by two new Yorkshire writers Boff Whalley and Dom Grace. Leeds Prison, 1961. Following the execution of a Hungarian inmate, Governor Taylor seeks to reform the prisoners ("my boys!") through the transforming qualities of the arts; on his orders, the inmates will be directed in a production of Emily Bronte's classic tale Wuthering Heights. When the makeshift Heathcliffe and Cathy join forces he is prompted to question the story's themes of freedom and friendship. Directed by Daniel Bye and set to the stirring blues music of Leeds-based band Suffering Succotash.
